Madrid is the most densely populated Autonomous Community in Spain, with a population of 6,458,684, or 13.7% of the country’s total population (Source: Municipal Registry [Padrón Municipal] as of January 1, 2010).
The city of Madrid is home to 51% of the region’s population. The Community of Madrid’s impact on total domestic production (17.92% in 2010) is noticeably greater than its relative demographic importance (13.74%) and in both cases a growing trend has been observed in the last 10 years.
