    EU Committee of the Regions

The Community of Madrid has promoted the push of a series of measures favouring the development of a common European Cluster policy via its participation in the European Union Committee of the Regions .

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) was created in 1994 by virtue of the European Union Treaty as a consultation body made up of 334 representatives from European regional and local authorities. The Committee has to be consulted before EU decisions are taken on issues concerning local and regional government, such as regional policy, the environment, education and transport.

On 4th December 2006, the Competitiveness Council 2006 identified clusters as one of the nine priority actions to strengthen European innovation.
